Jason Bourne

With Jason Bourne, the reputation of one of the most respected action franchise's is on the line, and its that storied history that does this 4th Matt Damon entry no favors. For each of the three Bourne films starring Damon had something special that made them stand out amidst the action crowd, even when juxtaposed against each other. Identity had the best story and the highest body count. Supremacy the best car chase and Ultimatum the best and most plentiful hand to hand fights. Yet this latest attempt has nothing that allows it to stand out in the way a Bourne film should. In truth, other than two decent action set pieces, one in Greece and the climax in Vegas, there is hardly anything worthy enough of praise as to justify this film's existence. Oh and just as an aside, film fans like me absolutely hate it when a cool scene or line of dialogue from the trailer is altered in the final cut. Which is the case here with the much replayed and terrific "knock out shot" at the tail end of every trailer. That altered angle is just the first of many disappointments to come. The film has a flimsy story, fleetingly sub-par fisticuffs (unforgivable for a Bourne film) and a general uninspired air about it. Although technically not really worse than the Damon-less Bourne Legacy, considering what my expectations were, Jason Bourne is ultimately far less satisfying.
