The buzz around this sci-fi time travel film has been nothing short of outstanding. Some critics are calling it the most entertaining science fiction film in quite some time. Although I found the praise for the film slightly exaggerated, it remains an ambitious, original, intelligent and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Bruce Willis plays the older version of Joseph Gordon Levitt's heartless hitman who has been tasked with disposing of his older self in what the film coins as closing one's loop. Obviously, an abundance of mind-bending complications ensue that will likely require multiple viewings to truly appreciate. Writer director Ryan Johnson deserves top marks not only for his terrific screenplay, but also for his handling of the action sequences, managing to craft something a little different from your typical shoot-out moments. Looper may be a little too talky for those expecting an action packed thrill ride and the audience doesn't really have anyone particularly sympathetic to cheer for, yet the film's originality and top notch performances more than compensate.
