The topic of F1 racing is not an easy sell for non-hardcore fans. Ask Stallone how Driven was received? Although in all fairness, it helps with the marketing if the film has a compelling story and is actually good, which director Ron Howard's "Rush" has and is. The real life battle between Brit James Hunt and German Niki Lauda is a F1 tale that truly deserves a first class cinematic rendering. Lauda's exploits and struggles in particular are well worth retelling and Daniel Bruhl's performance is terrific. Hemsworth does well as Hunt, though his reckless playboy is far less compelling. As for the racing action, Howard does the best job yet at putting the viewer in the car, however the scenes themselves didn't last long enough for my taste. Just as you're getting into them, starting to feel that "Rush", they're over. I was expecting more prolonged racing excitement to go with the compelling narrative, but all and all, a soild, entertaining film.
