    Sherlock Holmes

Being raised on the old black and white movies starring Basil Rathbone, as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson, it takes a couple of viewings of this new version of the New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes to shake the older vision of Sherlock out of your conscious mind. Of course that is if you are over 50. If you are under 50 and have never seen Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce the newer version directed by Guy Ritchie is very good, with a great eye for detail he captures post Victorian London very well. Robert Downey Jr. plays Sherlock largely for laughs and sarcasm, something the other versions never did. Sherlock Holmes had a very dry sense of humor was a student of the human condition, was very observant and had a voracious appetite for knowledge. Sherlock always comes across as being a know-it-all and can be very intimidating. Dr. Watson on the otherhand is the steady guiding force behind the great Sherlock Holmes. Dr. Watson always the pragmatist is the balance and is largely there as Holmes's straight man. This version of Sherlock Holmes introduces us to Holmes played by Downey Jr. which takes some getting used to, but this is a great movie in its own right and should not be missed as it is very entertaining. Jude Law does a very convincing job as Dr. Watson and both Downey Jr. and Law have great chemistry together. An excellent addition to the lore of Sherlock Holmes. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle the author behind the stories of Sherlock and Dr. Watson would give his blessing to this new version of an old classic.
