One of the qualities I admire most about Clint Eastwood the director is he doesn't waste any time. Not shooting time, not screen time. His Sully is a lean hour and a half, when it easily could have been nearly double that. But why plod when you can thrill? Every moment that makes it on screen is an important one, whether gripping, informative or reflective. Of course it always helps to have Tom Hanks in nearly every scene, who delivers another empathetic performance as the heroic title captain. Aaron Eckhart also offers strong support as the loyal co-pilot. Good, old fashioned storytelling, the kind Hollywood still does really well, especially with consummate professionals like Eastwood and Hanks at the helm. Well worth it.
