The original cut of "The Outsiders" is a well acted, well shot drama that satisfies. C. Thomas Howell and Ralph Macchio are the standout performances, but everyone present is convincing. I was really surprised considering how young the performers are. As the film follows the characters, introducing us to their day-to-day lives and their plight I found myself getting completely invested in the story. How much of the quality comes from the film, and how much comes from the book I can't really say since I haven't read it, but you can just see the care and effort put on-screen. It's a well made film that, along with telling a good story, comments on poverty and the pointless violence that affects youth. I found it to be a superior "coming of age" drama.
