Most of the critics said it all. Sure there was some hilarious humour, no doubt. But the humour wasn't consistent and when it was really good, it was a derivative homage to the old series. We see Martin trying to act like Peter Sellers. He should get together with Martin Short and Chevy Chase and do remakes of the 3 stooges, stealing the same style and see how that goes over. And the chemistry is not there between the new Clouseau and Dreyfus. Martin and Cline both 'jumped the shark' with this one. This is the USA answer to Johnny English. They should've at least had Rowan Atkinson play Dreyfus. This poor homage to Blake Edwards films reminds me of Matthew Broderick as Inspector Gadget. (shiver) Whereas the Gadget film is a big skittles commercial, Panther is a big McDonald's ad, really. On the poster, instead of having the shadow of the pink panther behind Martin, they should have put a shadow of the golden arches. That is what this movie is about. Shame on the producers, inspite of a few good but predictable laughs. An example of the bad humour, is when the globe reappears later in the film and hits the bike rider. This gag doesn't fit with the style they were trying to copy. Watch the originals; you are aware that when the writers want you to laugh, you laugh, because those writers knew comedy.
