The Razor's Edge starring 40's movie idol Tyrone Power tells the story of Larry Darrow, a young man who was seeking adventure enlists in the army in the first world war. Not knowing that war is hell Darrow almost gets himself killed but survives because a man takes a bullet meant for him. After the war ends Darrow can't seem to fit back into society and decides to go travelling abroad to find himself and answer some gnawing questions that are bothering him and try and answer the question; why would a complete stranger give up his life so that he may live. Based on the short story by Somerset Maughm, The Razor's Edge in my oppinion was ahead of it's time because of its esoteric message. With an all star cast featuring the alluring Gene Tierney, John Payne, Anne Baxter and Clifton Webb tells a secondary story of expatriate Americans living in Paris during the "Great Depression". This timeless story has a lot going for it and is well worth seeing for its uplifting message. See it on Turner's Classic Movies or on DVD if you can find a copy. Not recommended for children because of its adult themes.
