The Wolf of Wall Street

[...] The Wolf of Wall Street is a straight up masterpiece, perhaps Scorsese's best film in 20 years and a shocking celebration of hedonistic excess the likes of which most people have never seen. It features all manner of lude conduct, every curse word you can imagine, office/plane orgies, cocaine, crack and hyper-potent Quaalude induced rages, all manner of hookers and men robustly pounding their chests like the out of the control animals they are. The whole enterprise meant to embody the pure insanity and greed run amok that was and is Wall Street. DiCaprio gives the towering performance of his career, a bold statement considering his career, but one that is entirely justified. For 3 hours he charms, screams and drug trips his way through Jordan Belfort's life, rarely pausing to so much as take a breath. It is an unbelievable thing to watch. Jonah Hill is also out of this world good as Belfort's right hand man. A masterclass excercise is acting, writing and directing, with it's length being the only legitimate strike against it. Although it never feels as if a second of screen time is wasted or perfunctory. Regardless of its shocking and offensive subject matter, if you do not like this film you have no conception of what constitutes quality filmmaking.
