So this marks Jackman's 6th time as The Wolverine not counting upcoming DOFP and although it is considerbaly better than 09's Origins and was obviously made with some splendid visual care and skill, it simply is nothing all that thrilling. The first half is very promising, with Jackman never more the grizzly Marvel anti-hero and the Japanese setting a welcome change. Apart from a huge and narratively significant shock at the start, it's a very calm, subdued beginning, especially for a super-hero movie. The action does eventually take over and with it the film just feels tired, although the climactic battle in a snow-covered village in the Japanese mountains is quite breathtaking. A worthy effort but nothing that really justifies its existence after so many go arounds.
