Once again the movie industry proves that you don't mess with a successful formula. The producers know exactly how to make these movies. It's "plug and play" at this point, because the formula is highly refined. They know what sucks because the audience screams it out loud when a movie flops. Heck, you can just troll sites like this to find out what people like/don't like about a given movie. My point is that this one delivers everything you expect going in; cool heroes/villains with mutant powers, some plot to destroy the world and the slick action scenes that go along with saving it. Add some character development, a cup of plot twists, a dash of humour and voila! Millions at the box office. I remember the story line from the comics and they did close enough with the usual liberties which are not deal-breakers IMO. The sentinels were pretty awesome. Though quite evil, the newer ones could have been better IMO. A couple of niggles which didn't make perfect sense, but overall quite enjoyable. There wasn't much Wolverine fighting though he was in almost every scene. Again, the comics were like that sometimes. Peter Dinklage was excellent... and everyone thought he was going to be Puck! Quicksilver was terrific. I have always thought there was too much Magneto and Mystique in the X-Men movies and this is no exception. They brought Colossus back, but he doesn't do a whole lot. Nightcrawler would be nice to see again. Still, nothing compares to the horrible choice of Toad in X1. Let's not get into the excessively complex outfits they wear.
