The Elder David Lean proves that he is and always will be one of the greatest directors of the 20th century with 'A Passage to India'. The whole mystery and mystique of this gem of a film resounds to this very day. Dame Peggy Ashcroft won many honours for her role in PASSAGE including the Best Supporting Actress OSCAR of 1984. Lean proved conclusively that he could make small films into big hits such as 'Great Expectations' and the big budget films such as Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, Ryan's Daughter and Doctor Zhivago humongous in scope yet still with a touch of intimacy. Passage is true Lean!
