I would say I am a fan of Jane Austen since my University days and since investigating everything about her on a long visit to Bath, where she lived and worked. Did Jane Austen ever travel from Bath? Interesting debate! In any case, I feel myself, as a man, rather stupefied to say that her novels can give one damn thrilling ride all in her sphere of a politically correct English Society. So, I obviously would have to say that the re-imagining of everything "Jane Austen" in Austenlad put a very big smile on my face. Yes, the movie might be some superior bit of fluff, but nonetheless all the more more delicious and sweet... a word I use in a very positive sense. Some of the reviewers should look at a film a bit more carefully before rendering judgement. This is not HAMLET. It purports to be exactly what it is... a wonderful, fantastical jaunt into another era. I truly had fun with this wonderful "nonsense" of living out one's dream. Oh, Yes! Men, take your lady to see it or buy the DVD. She will appreciate it and YOU for making such an amazing choice for a movie.
