Oscar Winner Anna Magnani is awesome as a screen-struck mother whose convinced her daughter's star power will lead her to a new sort of life. In 1951 Bette Davis lavished praise on Magnani as brilliant, uninhibited and full of volcanic earthy power. The optimism of the early stages of the film will contrast sharply with reality as the film evolves. A must see if only to experience the force of nature Italian Actress Anna Magnani was both on stage and screen. She won the Italian Actress of the year for this role. Luchino Visconti is brilliant in directing this great film. Also starring 1950's heart-throb, Walter Chiari.
