As the wave of Marvel's classic comics come to life and disappoint again and again, I expected very little going into this one. But I've always been a fan and I was honestly surprised: Chris Evans, managed to avoid seeming too perfect, as many of the older comics would suggest. After all, it is only his body that is enhanced, he shows moments of weakness, and emotional doubt as well as shows insight into his own perception of his changed self. The plot is somewhat predictable, but being set in the era that it was meant to take place in, the WWII theme didn't seem as cliched as usual, purely because of the slightly different approach they take to tackle the conflict. One would think that this movie would be riddled with shoot 'em up action scenes, but surprisingly isn't. Overall, I was impressed with the, let's say "mature" way they handled this superhero, and managed to develop a couple of believable characters (some of the others, not so much)and a substantial plotline, not riddled with too many bulletholes. The end seemed like a cop-out, but you can judge that for yourself (definitely see it if you've been disappointed with Marvel's more recent releases) Solid film. Very enjoyable.
