Sprawling family drama directed by Vincente Minelli. Robert Mitchum is the patriarch of an empire in a local town. Wife Eleanor Parker is estranged from him. The film starts off a little slowly and is quite long at two and a half hours, but I thoroughly enjoyed living with this group of people. George Hamilton, George Peppard and Luana Patten are major parts of this eventual tragedy. Old-time supporting actor Everett Sloane gives one of the better performances. The various crises and climax will come as quite a shock. A fine film very few know about!
