This movie is based on a true story about France's first serial killer (ergo the title S (serial) K (killer) 1 (one)) that roamed Paris during the late 1980's to late 1990's. Because this is a french film it's aesthetics aren't those of Hollywood. No high speed car chases, no bombs and long running gun battles, no predictable character development. It is a little uncomfortable to watch at times as we see how justice in this case with all of its flaws and shortcomings. We also see how the accused is human with all of his flaws too. This film is understated but grows on you as it unravels, reminding us of how difficult the job to policing and justice is. I really did enjoy it very much.
