Lost River is Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, a film he also wrote. I remember that it was not well received at Cannes 2014. Lost River is not a film to all tastes in both theme of the mother's plight and in the fantasy type thriller of the the son. What is outstanding is the whole bleak Michigan backdrop for the film. It's an imaginary town which looks all to clearly like parts of Detroit in all its ruin and decay, a very sad situation. In this sense, the fantasy thriller looks very much like a horror story.
