    Ryan's Daughter

You marry an older gent (Robert Mitchum) and you feel on your first night that there are no sparks to be had. Enter an English Major in the battle zone of Irish Rebels. Oscar Nominee Sarah Miles (Rosy) falls madly in love with the major as he (Chistopher Jones) with Rosy. Someone, however has betrayed the Irish rebels to the British and the finger points to Rosy. It's a shameless spectacle trying to find a scapegoat in a woman the whole town hates. This wonderful story did not do so well with the critics who thought it below David Lean standards. I absolutely reveled in the film, loved Rosy and her young Major though they are doing wrong.

It's a tragic love tale of unusual proportions. Wait till you find out who the INFORMER is? Tugging at my heart strings, the film and its dénouement made me very sad. Trevor Howard as the Local Priest is in top form as is Sir John Mills who took the Best Supporting Oscar as the town "idiot". The film is beautifully shot, the performances are wonderful, we get a great amount of suspense and thrills in a tale of old Irish Rebels fighting the British way back in the day. I don't know what more the critics of 1970 were looking for? Great film!
