    The Turandot Project

I absolutely loved this documentary based on the staging of the opera TURANDOT by Puccini filmed within the forbidden city of Bejing. Not only do we see the great preparation to put on such a grand opera, but we get a formidable picture of the Chinese regime way back in 2000. Zubin Mehta who conducted the entire project was able to illicit a great oriental sound from the orchestra that was all important for a successful staging. It inspired lead singers Giovanna Cassolla, Lando Bartolini and the entire cast of singing actors to perform to their optimum. The backstage technique to put on such a tremendous feat truly was an inspiration to me. A splendid documentary on the preparation for one of the 20th century's grandest of grand operas.
