The film works terrifically well as we realize that perhaps every family on the planet, much like this film's family, works on some level of dysfunction which is not to infer that dysfunction concerns itself only with negative emotions. On the contrary! With the passing of a father and the gathering of a family we witness what is mirrored in our own lives and families. Things are funny; things can be absurd; there certainly is grief and pain, but there is also a semblance of family bond, positive things that show that through thick and thin a family can still love. Great work from all concerned! Tina Fey we all know is a genius, Jason Bateman has proved in the last few years he is a top-notch actor. I ADORED HIM IN BAD WORDS of which I have yet to write a review. And how wonderful to see Jane, the 2014 recipient of the AFI lifetime achievement award on the screen yet again. I loved the film but one I found hard to rate. Going with a STRONG 7! Definitely worth your time.
