As far as documentaries go, this one was shot with a very intimate, personal view of the matter, talking first hand with the parties involved at different stages of the entire process of the autodefendas of which the documentary is the subject. The result is quite a special documentary. Going from the beginnings and the ideas behind the bringing about the autodefendas with the success that resulted from it, to the death of its leader and the legalization of the movement along with infiltration of the drug cartels into the police, there is quite a range of developments that are seen first hand as the filming was done throughout the process. There are no actors, no reviewing of history, no talking to second hand witnesses, just a first rate view of the participants themselves witnessing the situation and the movement as it comes about. A spectacular documentary unlike others, and a real first-rate testament to what occurred. As far as documentaries go, it is hard to criticize the real, raw events being film before your eyes.
