I loved the book and I couldn't wait to see the movie. A lot of the reviews have compared it to the novel, or to the notebook. Okay, well the books are always better and the notebook was an entirely different storyline. If you look at the movie just as itself, it was decent. It is extremely sad and I cried through most of it, although I read the book and knew what was coming. As for the ending, I think the reason for the change was just for a happier ending. In the book, they never saw each other again after John decided to sell his dad's coins. At least in the movie, they saw each other and looked as if they have came to terms with what had happened to them. I thought the acting was amazing and worth seeing. I would pay 10 bucks for this and chances are I will buy it when it comes to DVD. I wish people would stop comparing it to other nicholas sparks works. It is different. Judge it based on the movie itself, not what came before.
