    Doctor Zhivago

A bitter/sweet epic romance by David Lean, it was nominated for 10 Oscars. Five winners. Focused in the time of the Russian Bolshevik revolution, the film touches lightly on the horrors and isolation of civil war on the common folk. Marvelous outdoor and indoor camera work. The camera work plus the high kleenex count probably accounted for the popularity of this film. Sir Thomas Courtenay, the only actor nominated for an Oscar, uttered a deathly line that would kill lesser films on the spot. No spoilers, here.
