While I understand the good ratings the movie has garnered by critics, it is hard, even unjustifiable, to give it anything more than a 7, a score which it gets mostly due to the absolutely impeccable performances on all parts (The lawyer, the husband, Viviane, the witnesses & the judges) I mean all performances where pretty amazing. Now that that's out of the way let's get to the bottom of it. The movie talks about a very common situation for many orthodox jew women looking to get a religious divorce. While it is a pretty bad situation for the women involved, it is simply a testament to the power held by man in most religious courts and even less than that seen in islamic law. So, while I do admire the work by the writers and the actors to create a compelling, low-budget movie to bring worldwide attention to this, as a movie it is severely limited by the scenes taking part in the courtroom and the limited timeframe in which we get to know the parties involved (only after the fact and only on court dates) While they definitely succeeded in doing a good job with the limitations given, these are felt throughout the picture.
