    My Week with Marilyn

Being of a generation that idolized Ms. Monroe while she was still alive, I was fearful of seeing this film. Would they make Marilyn look like a fool, a simpleton? Would they present her as an all-knowing citizen of the world, capable of portraying any Shakespearian character but controlled by her Hollywood advisors who didn't want to derail their cash cow? Was she misused, misunderstood and abused? The movie portrayed Marilyn exactly as she was portrayed by the press before and after her death. This was comforting to my memory but it takes away any surprises, to the detriment of the film. Still, I'm glad I saw it. Michelle Williams WAS Marilyn on screen and the talk is she is award ceremonies bound. I was pleased to see a brief characterization of Vivien Leigh. This woman, beautiful and talented, is also worthy of a film bio.
