A physically fit and Stone-faced Kirk Douglas challenged all participants to take this Gladiator film away from him. Laurence Olivier, Charles Laughton, Peter Ustinov, Stanley Kubrick and blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo all tried. None succeeded. All were extremely talented, and all knew they could do a better job than the other. Did they make it better? It's a minor classic IMO.
