Buckaroo Bonzai was not your formulaic Sci-Fi tale but rather a very off beat Rock and Roll science fiction adventure. Probably based on a Japanese comic book it has a bit of everything going on. Even the spaceship designs were like nothing that you had ever seen. It sort of reminded me of another offbeat tale, the French movie Barbarella with Jane Fonda. John Lithgow as the villain Dr. Emiliano Lizardo plays it up to the hilt for laughs and Peter Weller as Buckaroo come across as a cheezy B-movie player. BB is a cult classic that plays on TV late at night, so if you see it listed in your TV guide, try to catch it. You won't be disappointed. If anything a laugh riot adventure.
