The Break-Up

Extra marks for two novelties in this movie. ONE. It now holds my record for most people that walked out of a movie! I don’t know what it was, but there were more teen couples there than usual. And they all walked out. A whole quarter section of the theatre was vacant when I turned around half way through the movie. I think they got sucked in by Romantic comedy, expecting Comedy instead of Romantic drama. Seriously, a lot of action movies can sprinkle in enough jokes to make them funnier. The Island was more comical than this. Only the concept is a potential comedy, but it doesn’t deliver. TWO, next is the ending. Yes, the realistic ending is refreshing!! Yet, part of that was a question that hit me, “When will it end? ” They tried to wrap it all up and went after loose end after loose end. Seriously, this is seemed like the longest movie for one only being 1.75 hours long. So believe it or not, those are the two highlights. The rest was crap. Half the supporting cast was pathetic. It lacked a lot of chemistry between characters throughout. I couldn’t relate to either main character because they were both jerks that I wouldn’t hang with in my real life. If anything they deserved each other. There was a lot in there about how men and women interact, but I felt it didn’t come out well, other than to start a battle of the sexes. Instead of showing understanding, this movie creates more conflict.
