Solid story, great special effects for 1953 and solid acting make this first version of The War of the Worlds a nostalgic trip down Sci-Fi's memory lane. Based on the story by H. G. Wells and later adapted for a notorious radio show perpetrated by acting legend Orson Welles sent shivers down the spines of a largely uninformed American public sending people into a panic that Martians had actually invaded when Welles radio show aired unannounced during Halloween. Although this movie doesn't depict that real life event, it is more a visual depiction of a fictitious event. Definitely worth seeing.
