War of the Worlds

Another Spielberg Classic! I do not pick up remakes very quickly. For me, many seem to be a money grab, and I have to see a good reason to remake a movie. Modern special effects are one of the more common acceptable reasons. Oh, and typical the Americanization of the world is NOT an acceptable reason, including doing English versions of great foreign movies. And doing TV Series (mostly 70’s) is just wrong! I blame it on Charlie’s Angles being a hit and created a whole new formula to try duplicate that success. Anyway, so War of the Worlds is the best remake of the year. I like how they keep you in the dark over much of the facts, like Signs did. You aren’t given all the answers about the aliens, and that brings you closer to being right there with the characters in the story whom realistically would not have access to all kinds of information when in the middle of a catastrophe.
