Based upon a short story by Stephen King, this movie can be viewed as being a microcosm of The Shining - all the evil takes place in a single room (1408), instead of in an entire hotel. John Cusack portrays a debunker - he goes to supposedly haunted places and proves that there are not really any ghosts. However, in Room 1408 - for the 1st time - the apparitions appear to be real. Or are they just a figment of his imagination? Did the manager put something in his drink? What does his dead daughter have to do with these horrific images?
