In the late 1960s/early 1970s, Charlton Heston made a trio of excellent apocalyptic sci-fi action films. Tim Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes was disastrous. Likewise, I Am Legend is an equally bad version of Heston's classic The Omega Man. The flashbacks only serve to confuse the story and there is way too much quiet talking and not nearly enough action scenes involving the mutant hordes. Disappointing.

Well, I have to agree with you 100%, and I think I liked Omega Man better, although I haven't seen it for a few years. Maybe my memory of The Omega man is better than I Am Legend, heh heh, there's a flashback that makes sense! I find I like Will Smith more as he ages and matures, but felt this was indeed a movie that was rushed through the process. Didn't measure up to the potential of the current technology, Directing, or - sadly - overall acting. Gotta say it's a renter.
I don't want to seem rude but you are comparing the Will Smith "I Am Legend" to Heston's "Omega Man" and calling it a remake. The truth is that "I Am Legend" is the 3rd remake of a BOOK which was written in the 40's. "Omega Man", while a good movie I agree and the 2nd remake of the book, was the one of the three movies that strayed the MOST from the book and didn't really portray the meaning of what the author was trying to get across whereas Will Smith's "I Am Legend" touches more on what the writer wanted. Also, this movie was first slated be filmed in the late 80's with Arnold Schwarznegger as the main actor and as much as I am a die hard fan of Arnie I think that the movie being shelved because of finacial issues and being brought out with Will Smith was the best thing that could have been done for that movie.
