The original 1971 Sam Peckinpah movie was banned in the United Kingdom for 35 years because of the violence and nudity. This version tones down the sexual component. The story is basically the same but instead of an American mathematician and his wife being transported to rural England, a California screenwriter and his actress spouse move to Mississippi. The menacing, redneck nature of life in this part of the country is really emphasized; the only thing missing is a Nascar race and dueling banjos. As the main villain, James Woods chews the scenery to perfection. If I hadn't already known the plot, I would've given it a 9 out of 10.
