Long and boring. The Comedian and Rorschach's stories were interesting but, like in Sin City, the film makers attempt to be complete meant the film swung away to characters and their stories that were not in the least interesting. The love story? I could have done without it entirely, and all the back story her mother and etc., etc. The alternative history (Hellboy I did this much better) is dull after it is established, and almost entirely predictable. The cold war politics felt really in a post-nuclear threat modern reality where pollution and misuse of resources has become the gravest threat to human survival not the trumped up moral conundrums of super humans (XMen II had a more interesting group of super people) Pretentiousness then veers into arrogant absurdity with the bad guy's False Flag / Pyhrric solution to the world's ills. Ridiculous. I haven't read the book and I don't intend to - it's relevance to the movie is moot.
