Stanley Kubrick brought only a dozen feature films to the screen, yet his report card shows him to be one of the industry's great directors. This is one of his best. Filled with wanton violence, misogynist conduct, corrupt politicians, undisciplined policemen, and medical practitioners who enjoy the art of experimentation, A Clockwork Orange sets new standards in community depravity. Malcolm MacDowell, 27 years old with a couple of fine performances behind him, played a juvenile delinquent and became typecast as an evil incorrigible forever. The film uses a marvelous soundtrack featuring Beethoven's 9th symphony and the popular hit 'Singing in the Rain'. A marvelous, and enjoyable!, film in spite of its subject matter.
