The novel's author, Jesse Andrews (his first book), was asked to write the screenplay (his first) and also the script (his first) for Director Alfonso Gomez-Dijon and the two came up with this winning film. Although the film could have taken a tragic approach they laced it with off-the-wall humour; a difficult feat for success. Greg (Thomas Mann) was presented as a self-engrossed young man who didn't become aware of the depth of the many and varied talents of Rachel (Olivia Cooke) until after considerable passage of time. Mann, the 'Me' of the title, played his role perfectly I think. One of the joys for me, and perhaps other contributors to Cinemaclock, was the frequent reference to many classic films of the past.
