    Minnie and Moscowitz

A theatre has a responsibilty to its audience to present the best possible production, regardless of admission price. Last eve I had the misfortune to attend a screening of this film in a totally remodelled theatre which doubles as a university auditorium. The film includes a number of vignettes which may individually be quite entertaining, however the sound was unpalatable. The source, a 35mm film, may have been the cause, but it was so loud that all I heard through the entire evening was unbearable screeching. Anyone present with some authority should have adjusted the volume but it didn't happen. Due to the unpleasant soundtrack many viewers departed. The eccentric love story became nothing more than a series of verbal admonishments which often led to physical confrontations, all at an uncomfortable decibel count. My rating recognizes only the talented writing displayed in the creative stories that make up the film, nothing more. Note: John Cassavetes, in an effort to produce a film at the lowest possible budget, employed many family members in the movie's creation. Cassavetes himself played one of the roles although his name is not included in the acting credits.
