Wow, splendid movie simply by the performance delivered from peneloppe. Its odd but when you think of it, how many great performances has Penelope had in american-made movies? Sahara? Vanilla Sky? Here she shines as an impoverished woman who falls in love with a respectable doctor. Their relationship paralleled with that of the doctors' wife releases so much of the her potential as an actress. The story's up and downs carries you through what could have easily been the real-life experiences of an italian doctor. Everything feels so authentic it is frightening. It is odd how in "open your eyes" (the original spanish version of Vanilla Sky)Penelope, along with the story, took my breath away while in Vanilla Sky, well... she didn't. This is a movie worth watching and learning from.
