The Amazing Spiderman is nothing short of amazing. A really really well done movie. Do yourself a favor and go see it in IMAX. An absolutely spot on movie and as good as it gets for the type.

"Spot on" from you has no meaning. You give most of your movies an eight, nine or ten. Are you hard up for friends and want us to like you?

It was a really well done movie. That's all. If you want to see if you agree go take a look at it yourself. The visuals were spectacular and Andrew did a good job. I've rated 600 movies + I don't give everything a 8+ rating. It may be an "origin" movie but the plot the script the visuals were all "spot on". The only thing I missed was the newspaper which is absent from here. Ohh and you don't have to take my word for it either, it's getting 79% rating at rottentomatoes.com.

Btw you may be somewhat right. I've written some of these reviews years ago (5+) so I wouldn't rate them the same way today. Don't miss out though, it's an excellent flick.

Thanks for your response. My comment was addressing the fact that your scores seem too high in general from how I interpret the numbers. To me a six is a "good" movie. To move upwards the movie has to be better than others of the same genre. So the question is: is this a better action movie than say "Avengers" or "Transformers"? Since this is a re-make then is it better than the other Spider man movies, especially #1? As for your reviews they all seem thorough and informative. When I check out your other ratings then I can guess how I might score it. This particular movie doesn't sound like it offers anything new. It might be a "light" evening out and no more. Taking my teenage son out to see Spiderman in 3-D movie will cost around 50 bucks. I am sure he might prefer the option of buying the Spider man video game at the same price. Thanks again for responding.

First of all, the game does not offer the same storyline. Second of all, it will cost you around 30$ to go see it in 3-D in any regular theatre. Finally, it is a PERSONAL appreciation of the movie so you cannot say someone doesn't have credibility just because he likes movies you didn't. You simply cannot compare everything to Avengers and if you think 6 represents a good movie, there is a problem somewhere. If your kid wants to see it, then just go. There is nothing to lose and you get to spend quality time with your son.

Popcorn and a drink add the $20. So the movie does cost $50. I was not disputing whether someone has different tastes in the same movies. I was discussing the actual scoring numbers used. I used Avengers as one example of an action "superhero" type movie. You cannot compare Spiderman to say "Ted". As for a six: if you took the time to read the descriptors a six means "not bad". That is my starting point for scoring and I move up or down accordingly. If you have any criticism about a movie it should not receive a ten. And seeing a movie with my son is not what I consider "quality" time.

So in other words, you can't not to buy popcorn and a drink. I mean, after all, that is what "completes" the movie going experience... Also, I don't dispute the fact that you're not disputing others taste in films. However, after having read some of your comments on the reviews of others, I feel that it might not be ones place to leave a snarky remark to a high movie rating. The people reviewing are simply stating their enjoyment. Perhaps that movie really is a nine or a ten to them. This doesn't make their review "unbelievable" or invalid. Even if they only review "tens". Each review must be taken with a grain of salt. The individuals using this service have the right to make their own choice as to what degree they enjoyed the movie or not. In closing, I apologize for my rant. Something about this digital conversation struck a nerve with me and I felt the urge to voice my opinion. Best wishes all.

Movie and a pop corn is a cliche in society. So 90% of movie goers (and you can check the concession line-ups) spend twenty bucks on some kind of food. And yes it does complete the experience. I will repeat my point to you regarding the ratings. Firstly everyone can rate or score a movie in any way they want. Movies like this one do get inflated scores as many young people will post their: "OMG SEE IT NOW!!" stuff. It baffles me at times when I read a review that states "There was way too much violence" for a slasher film. And then when you look through their other reviews they give all the slasher films a one. That to me is just silly. When I read reviews I hope to get a message about the movie. Some kind of reference point about the story or CGI etc. Surely it is reasonable to expect an explanation to credit a movie with a Ten. What makes it a classic? In my view, the numbers in here for rating a movie are mis-used. There are, in my view, far too many nines and tens. I should not have to scroll through the person's other reviews to determine if this movie is really a nine or ten... or, in my view, an inflated score. And as you would say we all have our right to an opinion. I have no interest in seeing Spiderman at this point. I will even predict that it will be OUT of the theaters within three weeks. (July 25!) because it is just an OK film with nothing new---a six or seven at best, in my view. Thanks for your apology. Accept mine as well please. Lol.

You make all very valid points. I don't disagree that some films will see an inflated score on a service like this. Especially films charged by pop culture. However, I don't believe that people should be discouraged from rating their enjoyment of film. Whether or not they give backing for their rating shouldn't be an issue. While it can help in shaping our own opinion of a film, the final issue will still come down to personal choice. I'm not talking about spiderman in particular. More so, film in general. I personally agree that Nine+ is a very high rating; however, I stand by my previous statement that each rating is very personal. For example, there're some movies that I love and would give a ten; but, would receive low scores from almost everyone else. Does that make it any less a classic in my eyes? Again it's all with a grain of salt. Furthermore, by looking at the age group of reviewers we can identify the validity of the review to our own opinion. The younger the reviewer the more likely the "OMG" reaction. I agree this is quite silly; however, people of such a demographic are probably developing their skills for identifying with film. Eventually, they may be able to write more in depth reviews. However, they might not develop in such a way, and they will continue to enjoy a pleasant suspension of disbelief in the theatre. This service is simply a place where we can all share enjoyment, excitement and criticism. The levels or extensiveness of each is not set. Even the "OMG I loved this movie" reaction gives a hint that the movie would probably be fun on rainy day. On a more spiderman related note, I would give it between Six and Seven. It's definitely worth seeing but there is some wasted potential. The effects are enjoyable, sometimes a little kitschy (spiderman after all), 3d is not really worth it. I enjoyed the freshness of the reboot and the enhanced spiderlike movements. However, it felt like there was too much introduced into the plot in the amount of time. Hence, there was development that was started but never really completed properly. It felt like there was something missing. Maybe check it out in a cheap theatre or wait for a couple weeks to see it in an empty theatre (nothing like an empty theatre to yourself) On that note Snow White has been out for five weeks and not nearly as good in my opinion... But, I digress. To close, I gladly accept your apology as well. Furthermore I thank you for the fresh discussion. Sharing views in this way always stimulates me in a most refreshing manner. Best wishes. Plus, an apology towards sacoca_ for using your review to host such an extensive conversation.

So. At the end of the day. Spider man is an ordinary action movie with nothing new worthy of a six... or seven.. The original reviewer had reviewed 600+ movies with 500 being in the eight nine or ten level. I would never read her reviews in future for a sense of the movies' real value... in my view... So check out whether this flick will survive for more than three weeks.

Who are you to tell that people's opinion aren't right? So what if he rates all 8-9-10? If he is like me, I enjoy almost every movie I watch. I go in with no expectations, which makes it that more enjoyable. You people go in with the intention to judge. Just enjoy the damn shown for crying out loud.

I completely agree my friend. As I wrote previously I think that everyone should rate their level of enjoyment. When it comes to judging, I can honestly say I didn't think about a rating till after I started this whole debacle. It kind of went full circle to my original intention when I responded. My bad for causing any distress... You know the first movie made was a train pulling into its station. When people saw it pulling in they ran out of the theatre because they thought would be hit by it. How awesome is that?

Firstly Phil, if you took the time to actually read all the commentary in here, you would quickly learn that this is NOT about individual tastes in movies. You might LOVE the Lorax or Friday Xiii part twenty-two and give them a ten. I have no problem with that. But you can’t simply and arbitrarily give every freaking movie a high score if you want me to respect your rating system. The reason people post in here is to give the rest of us a sense for the value for a particular movie. So whenever I read a high score for a new movie, I inspect their other movie scores. In this way I can get a sense of what they do or do not like. But when I see 90% of their scores being 8, 9 or 10 then I simply dismiss their reviews as irrelevant. I have also decided to dismiss all “first reviews” or any reviews from the younger crowd i.e. under 18. I go to movies weekly and will attend the movies wherein I respect the reviewers’ scores. Can you tell me honestly that you would go to a movie that is recommended by this particular reviewer? Honestly can you? Bring it on Phil... lol.
