I saw wor of the worlds a few weeks ago and all I can remember is that it was pretty good. Obviously, some of you might say that the ending is a rip-off and you may be right but that is only because we've been so accustomed to having ending in the proper sense of the word that something as simple as this may seem too boring. But in reality, the message conveyed is actually extremely smart. We all carry within ourselves and within our culture millions of years of evolution. Why would it seem so mundane as to say that aliens may be killed by what we take for granted. Oxygen for instance. Its part of life but is also at the core of our death. We all contain mechanisms that have evolved through time to allow our body to utilize oxygen effciently while keeping ourselves somewhat protected from its damaging effects in the body. Did you know that we all contain remnants in our DNA from bacterial and viral species? Did you know that we have all developped 4 major groups of enzymes whose major goal in our bodies is to keep oxygen from destroying it. You could pump yourself full of "antioxidants" but without these 4 enzymes, you'd die. The use of oxygen is accepted as the main source of aging and ultimately death in our bodies. How could a species evolving in a different environment ever survive? The rational conclusion of a science fiction movie obviously doesn't please the viewer. But aside from that, the picture itself was fantastic. From the quest of a seemingly nonchalant father regarding the well-being of his kids, to the relentless drive to save their lives, Tom Cruise shined as an actor (although I have seen him in better roles) The graphics are simply astonishing and depict the most believable picture of an extra-terrestrial life form I have seen on screen. Far better than all of the cliches. To see if you are interested in the genre.
