The original filming of 'A Farewell to Arms' from 1932 has Gary Cooper of whom Ernest Hemingway approved a lot and Helen Hayes when she was at the crest of her 1930's love affair with Hollywood. It's a faithful adaptation directed by Oscar Winner Frank Borzage. It however, had some inconsistencies, that made it not as convincing as it could have been. The re-make gave Jennifer Jones a chance to really shine as the NURSE and Rock Hudson was did rather well, to boot!
