    Belle epoque

'BELLE EPOQUE' is a truly delicious film on every level that managed to win the Oscar Best Foreign Language Film Award in 1992. An AWOL lad stumbles upon a household whose father shares the AWOL soldier's political ideals. But that is hardly the story as we begin to meet the voluptuous daughters of papa, Don Manolo. This is the film in which future Oscar winner Penelope Cruz made such an impact, soon to become an international star. The mayhem that ensues in the film is pure heaven as it would appear, by their behaviour, that the young ladies have never seen a gorgeous man before. Wickedly good film from Fernando Trueba. I think this is the first time Spain took the honour as Best Foreign Film.
