L'Histoire d'Adele H. is firstly a film that boasts an outstanding performance by Isabelle Adjani in her 1975 Oscar Nominated Performance. It's quite the heartbreaking story of the daughter of literary great Victor Hugo who had been exiled from France because of his political views. The story deals NOT at all with Victor Hugo or his tribulations but rather the obsessive love of his unstable, young daughter for a British womanizer. The entire film deals with the terrible price one often has to pay for something beyond one's control. The theme of monomania comes to mind, how it usually leads to very dark places.
