    Major Barbara

Gabriel Pascal offers us a good transfer of G. B. Shaw's great stage play Major Barbara for the screen during the turbulent war years of WW II. It's not my favourite Shaw, but it does have a dynamic cast from Wendy Hiller who was in Shaw's 1938 'Pygmalion", the dynamic, young Rex Harrison and the wonderful character actors Robert Morley, Sybil Thorndike, Robert Newton and Emlyn Williams. Look for a disarmingly young Deborah Kerr in a bit part.
