    The Age of Innocence

It was a real departure for Marin Scorsese to film Eudora Weltey's magnificent novel 'The Age of Innocence' and it turned out to be like his other output... absolutely out of this world. The leads Daniel Day Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Wynona Ryder were riveting with Ryder nominated for an Oscar for her very delicate performance. I adore the period piece and all that comes with it... set and art decoration, costumes and the film had a fabulous screenplay. Martin Scorsese was able to bring an intellectual component to the film which did not at all conflict with the emotional trappings. I wish they still made these kinds of movies. Nowadays they come along so rarely because the idiot businessmen putting up the money as producers feel they won't make money. A great film will always make money.
