La Doppia Ora is an Italian thriller that contains nothing remotely similar to the the dozens upon dozens of Hollywood thrillers that all seem to be in the same vein with slight degrees of variation. Two rather wounded persons Sonia and Guido meet and there is almost an instantaneous bond between them when something extraordinarly horrible happens. The thrills and suspense do not come as is usual from circumstances that invade the lives of the main characters involving them in anything mysterious, nefarious or with shady persons but rather from unexplainable twists of life which pull them into a very dark abyss. Psychologically, one is on tenderhooks as present and past seem to collide as we are left slightly blindsided by the strangeness happening from day to day. What I call strangeness has nothing to do with evil phenomenon, threats on their lives or anything of the sort that Hollywood would throw at you which makes this nifty film chalk full of intrigue as we try to sort things out. It's a very original screenplay and wonderful to see a thriller in which you truly have to use your intelligence to figure out the insanity of the situation.
