Star Trek's future is far more hopeful than most sci-fi universes. The series was created by Gene Roddenberry and broke all kinds of new ground when it first aired in 1966. A crew made up of a black woman, an Asian man, an alien, and a Russian who all work together towards a common goal was one of the many elements that helped to make this show the Classic that it is today.
