Another solid addition to the Marvel universe. It's hard to award anything less than an 8 to this visually stunning origin story. The movie progresses flawlessly with nary a mistep but falls short of pursuing the avenues which would have made it great. A darker, more threatening Doctor Strange would have given the movie a welcome edginess. As with most Marvel movies, comic relief is used abundantly, which is entertaining but ultimately disarming. For this reason most Marvel films never fully capture the element of danger and the perception, however subconsciously, is that the characters are never in any true peril. The supernatural and mystical backdrop of Doctor Strange would have been the perfect opportunity to take a Marvel film beyond the cheeky fun and perfect technical execution to a place of fear and gritty realism. I'm sad it didn't go there.
