Foxcatcher or The Story of a self-absorbed psychologically unbalanced man. The psychology under pinning this movie is complex. The DuPont mother’s relationship with his son reveals a frantic quest for excellence but the domain has to be acceptable to the family rank in society. The two brothers relationship is almost one of fusion. Divorce’s off springs, the youngest relies on the older brother for nurturing and protection but also tries to break from it in order to progress in his dream of becoming a wrestling Olympic champion even though his financial means is extremely limited. Then comes the savior, the “mécène” who can make dreams come true and who seems genuinely interested in the young brother’s career but whose goals are vain and selfish in reality. Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum form an emotional rollercoaster triangle. For Carrel, it is a counter employment role since we see him mostly in comedies. His make-up plays a big part in playing this character though. Ruffalo and Tatum played their characters with wits and restrain which let place to the none-verbal to flesh out the personas. Details in make-up also benefited both in adding realism to their wrestling looks (ears in particular)
